Gustav Krklec: Holandska Kraljica od Bovca

Background information. The publication of Holandska Kraljica od Bovca on the WWW in December 2001 was made possible by the consent and kind support of Mrs. Ans Houben-van der Veen from the Netherlands, who owns the author's handwriting of the poem and its German translation. She says that Gustav Krklec wrote the poem in 1972, in Bovec, Slovenia, while he was staying in the same camping site as the parents of Mrs. Houben. He dedicated this song to Mrs. Jo(hanna) L.W. van der Veen-van Caem, Mrs. Houben's mother.

Mrs.Houben, twenty years old at that time, appeared briefly in the camp, on her way home from her Turkish holidays. Her memories of this encounter and the beautiful scenery of the river Soča and Bovec are still vivid. She writes: "I went many years on vacation in what was called Yougoslavia with the most pleasent memories. Most in Slovenija but also in Croatia and other parts and I visited many campsites at the Adriatic Sea. The river the Soca is still the most beautifull river I know. Especially the color green/blue and the white stones beside it."

Mrs. Houben looks forward to the possibility of finding some center/institution that would acknowledge the existence of this poem and add it to the list of poems by Gustav Krklec. Any information in this respect would be welcome.
